Mike Brey continues to make a major impact in the fight against cancer.

On Monday night at Purcell Pavilion, the Notre Dame men’s basketball head coach hosted his annual Under The Stars Gala, which benefits the American Cancer Society.

Supported by the community of Michiana, the event raised $250,000 for the cause.

Brey spoke with WNDU during the event.

"Anything we can do to raise money to defeat this dreaded disease is a good thing," Brey told WNDU. "It's always an exciting couple of days for me. I am really appreciative of the South Bend-Michiana community and how they've come out and supported us."

One of Brey’s players, Irish senior guard Rex Pflueger served as guest speaker and shared the story of his mother, Rebecca, who was learned she had Stage 4 brain cancer last year.

WNDU also spoke with Pflueger.
