Notre Dame doesn't make many trips to Alabama, but Mike Elston got to Birmingham early on Tuesday to check on 2021 Ramsay defensive end Jeremiah Williams‍.

The four-star prospect appreciated the time Elston carved out because he knows it's not an easy trip.

"It meant a lot because he came from South Bend," Williams stated. "It's kind of far."

The trip only cemented the strong relationship between the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder and Elston. The two talk almost every day, according to Williams.

"He has told about the scheme and stuff," explained Williams. "Coach Elston and I talk multiple times throughout the week and sometimes multiple times a day. We're really cool."

The Alabama native's recruitment is still in the early stages and doesn't have any schools standing out right now, but along with Elston, Williams admitted he had good relationships with schools across the country.

"Everything is mutual right now," said Williams. "I have good relationships with the coaches from Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and Nebraska."

In the coming months, Williams will start to get out on the road and Notre Dame is a place he has circled.

"I'm going to Tennessee next week and TCU soon," stated Williams. "I'll be getting out to some more schools this spring.

"I want to get up to Notre Dame sometime in March or April. Sometime this spring."

Tennessee is a school Williams wants to learn more about as he already knows the program has a family feel.

"The growth and potential of the program," Williams said of why he is interested in the Vols. "They have a family bond. They really care about their players."

Auburn has extended an offer while Alabama hasn't quite pulled the trigger yet, but Williams remains more than open to out of state programs.

"I'm definitely open to leaving the state," Williams said. "I want a family feeling and a stable coaching staff. I just want it to feel like a home away from home."

As far as a commitment, Williams isn't in a rush and wants to take his time to make sure he's making the right decision.

"I think I want to commit at the Early Signing Day or the late Signing Day."
