2019 Texas OL Talks ND Visit

It’s safe to say Tyler Johnson’s interest in Notre Dame is serious. The 2018 offensive lineman probably wouldn’t have made the trip up to South Bend all of the way up from Texas last weekend if he wasn’t.

And Johnson enjoyed his visit.

“It was fun,” the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas said.

Johnson had admired Notre Dame from afar.

“I’ve been watching them for a long time,” the junior lineman said.

“I know it’s a good school and a good football school.”

So, he took the visit for the Irish’s game against USC to get a look at Notre Dame’s campus for himself and he wasn’t disappointed.

“I got to see the facilities, the athletic facility,” he explained. “I got to go on a tour of the stadium, the locker room and all of that stuff.

“I liked it a lot. The fan base was really cool too.”

He was especially excited about the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“It was cool because everybody was going crazy,” Johnson said. “It was exciting.

“We got to see the players get all hyped before the game, during pregame warm-ups.”

Johnson laughed when asked about the wintry South Bend weather.

“It was good college game day weather,” he said.

Johnson didn’t get a chance to speak with members of the Irish coaching staff during the trip and doesn’t know what the next step in the process will be, but would like to try to build a relationship with Notre Dame.

Johnson already has a couple of others.

“I have offers from Tulsa and Tulane,” he said. “It was exciting because I wasn’t really expecting it my freshman year.”

He said college coaches like his aggression on the field.
