It was an extended look at Notre Dame, but Aidan Hutchinson still got a good look at Notre Dame on Monday, when the 2018 Michigan defensive end swung by South Bend on his way home from the Best of the Midwest Combine in Indianapolis.

“It went pretty good,” the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder said. “We weren’t there very long.

“We got a little campus tour and stepped in for a defensive meeting with Coach (Mike) Elston. Then we talked with Elston a little bit after.”

The Divine Child standout was impressed with what he saw during his quick campus tour.

“I thought it was great,” he said. “It was an all-around great visit. I loved the campus. Everything was pretty good there.”

He was also impressed by Elston’s meeting he got to peek in on.

“He involved me a lot,” Hutchinson said. “He told me what I would be playing and what type of different techniques he uses. It was great. He’s a great guy.”

Elston told Hutchinson Notre Dame sees him as an edge rusher.

“It was a little bit different for me because I’d never been inside a Division-I college meeting,” Hutchinson continued. “It was different, but it was cool. I liked all of the techniques he was teaching.”

Hutchinson currently has offers from schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, LSU, Boston College and Vanderbilt among others. The Irish haven’t offered yet, but Elston made it clear Hutchinson is on their radar.

“They said they need to get settled with their coaches,” Hutchinson explained. “They’ve had a lot of changes. When they get settled, they’re really going to focus on me.”

Hutchinson said some of the Big Ten schools are sticking out to him right now, but added, “Notre Dame is definitely up there though.”

“It’s just a great school all around,” he said. “The combination between the athletics is phenomenal.”

Hutchinson doesn’t expect to see his recruitment drag out very long

“I think I’ll be committing this spring, somewhere around there,” he said.

And if Notre Dame offers, he said he’ll probably get back to South Bend for a more in-depth visit.
