2020 New Jersey tight end Kevin Bauman‍ just announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder received an offer from the Irish late last month and then quickly scheduled a visit to South Bend for the beginning of this month, a trip he called "awesome." He especially enjoyed the time he spent with offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Chip Long.

“As a coach, I loved him. What he does with the tight ends from his previous job and as well at Notre Dame. I love to see what he was doing with the tight ends. A lot of the stuff is very similar to what we do. As a man, he was great; very down to earth. He was just fun to be around.”

As with most Notre Dame commits, the academics also played a significant role in the four-star prospect's decision.

“We got to learn a lot about the program from an academic standpoint and obviously, from a football standpoint,” he said. “We got to learn a lot of from a statistical standpoint; how they perform academically compared to other universities.

“All of that combined with the football program. It all comes together in a great way.”

The New Jersey native now joins 2020 New Canaan (Conn.) quarterback Drew Pyne‍ in the class, which had the signal-caller fired up on Wednesday.

"Having Kevin is absolutely awesome and I feel so thankful to be able to play with him in the future," stated Pyne. "Also, for him wanting to come to Notre Dame and play with me! I have a great relationship with him and we Facetimed right before he announced it. It is surreal for both of us at the moment. I cannot wait to be able to throw to such a big-athletic target but also a great person and friend! Go Irish!!!"

Bauman also had offers from schools like Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia among others.
