Strengths

His athleticism allows him to be very versatile with his position. He could play tight end, RUSH, or true defensive end because of it. I really like him at end or RUSH but with the depth chart the way it is I think him putting on weight and becoming a true defensive end is the way to go. I think he can easily put on enough weight to get to 250-260 while still keeping a lot of his athleticism that makes him special. He shows great coordination along the defensive line and uses the offensive skills he has on the defensive side of the ball. The fact that he has only played on the defensive line for one year is truly special. This makes his ceiling very high and once he grows with his technique and puts the weight on he is going to be able to do some special thing son the defensive side of the ball.

Weaknesses

He has not played a ton of defensive snaps in his career so far. He has a long way to go technique wise because he simply has not focused on it for a long time. The production was down in his first year on that side of the ball because he had to play offense full time at tight end where he was first team All-District. This lack of experience on defense is a weakness right now that will end up being a positive in my opinion. He also needs to simply put on weight. That is always easier said than done but he has to put on 25-30 pounds before he will be ready to contribute on a consistent basis.

How I see him fitting in at Baylor

I think he will end up at defensive end and will fit in very nicely with Baylor’s defensive scheme. At Temple the idea was to have as many athletic pass rushers on the defensive line as possible and this staff is trying to do the same thing at Baylor. Compton fits that mold extremely well but it will take time. I think the technique will take a little to develop but the fact that he is early enrolling will speed up that process. I think he will play some in year two and get a chance to play more meaningful snaps in year three.

Rating Explained

I like his film but the production on the side of the ball I project him to play is the reason his rating is not higher. But his athleticism puts him squarely in the middle of the three-star ratings. He will develop really well given some time.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Irish Sports Daily rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Irish Sports Daily Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Irish Sports Daily readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.
