California has passed a law that will prohibit colleges in the state from restricting athletes ability to earn money from their own name, images likeness. It was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday and will challenge the NCAA’s rule against student-athletes profiting from their own likeness.

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly was asked about his thoughts on the law on Monday, but was conservative as the bill is scheduled to go into effect January 1, 2023.

Newsom also made an appearance on LeBron James’ show Uninterrupted to talk about the bill along with former NCAA athletes.
