The good news is Notre Dame doesn’t face North Carolina on Saturday afternoon, but the Irish need to prove they can shoot the basketball in the next few weeks before they head to College Park for the ACC/B10 Challenge.

It’s too early in the season to state the weaknesses of Robert Morris, but the Irish are the bigger team for a change. John Mooney should be able to be John Mooney and it will be interesting to see how Juwan Durham responds after battling foul trouble on Wednesday against North Carolina.

If I’m Mike Brey, I’m confident in what I have in Mooney and sophomore point guard Prentiss Hubb, but can TJ Gibbs bring consistency this year? How healthy is Rex Pflueger at the end of the day?

Notre Dame isn’t going to answer all the questions surrounding its offense on Saturday, but getting Nate Laszewski scoring and Dane Goodwin would be a positive. I don’t know what Robby Carmody brings on the offensive end at this point in his career. He has a nice shot and showed the will to drive the lane, but can he finish consistently at the rim and can he shoot the three? It’s way too early to say one way or another, but if Carmody can find a role by Maryland game, it could be a big development.

Prediction: Notre Dame 75 Robert Morris 64

Same starting 5 for the Irish as in each exhibition and at UNC: Hubb, Gibbs, Mooney, Durham, Pflueger

Durham opens with a blocked shot after RMU wins tip

Make that Durham swats on each of RMU's first two possessions

And Irish work it inside to Mooney for game's first points, 2-0 ND

Carmody off the bench with four quick points, both teams struggling some with turnovers (RMU 5, ND 3) and Irish lead 12-8, 11:14 first half

Better offense during that segment, with ND pushing out to a 21-11 lead. Durham pretty nice early, four points and three blocked shots.
RMU up to 8 turnovers; ND leading on boards as well.

Carmody and Dane Goodwin continue to give good minutes off the bench, and Gibbs just fed Nate Laszewski for a smooth dunk baseline. Irish very sharp last 7-8 minutes, now up 32-15 before the half.

Colonials up to 10 turnovers against just 6 made field goals

And we're at the half, 39-20 Irish lead.

Gibbs, Goodwin, Hubbs with 7 apiece.

Irish shooting very well from the floor, especially from 2, at 55.6 percent. 15-27 from 2s, just 2-10 on 3s.

RMU with 11 turnovers at the half; Colonials had just 14 total in their opener this week at Marshall.

Irish sizzling to start the second half; have 19 points in the first five-plus minutes and now lead 58-28.

Prentiss Hubb has 13 points, and he and TJ Gibbs have combined to hit 5 of 8 3s. Rest of team is 0-5

RMU up to 14 turnovers, only 11 buckets
