It may not be as eventful as his last visit to Notre Dame, but Deion Colzie‍ is fired up about returning to South Bend this weekend.

“I’m very excited actually,” Colzie says. “I can’t wait to be back.”

The 2021 Georgia wide receiver announced his verbal commitment to the Irish during his previous trip to South Bend, in October. This time, he’s looking to get an even deeper feeling for the program.

“Most importantly, making a bond with the other commits who are coming and other coaches,” said Colzie, who had visited three times before committing.

“I just want to get closer and a better bond with everyone there.”

Colzie has gotten to know his fellow 2021 commits –offensive lineman Blake Fisher‍, who will also be in town this weekend, and quarterback Tyler Buchner‍ – well over the last couple months.

“We’re pretty tight,” Colzie says. “We talk to each other occasionally checking up on each other, seeing how the season is going or whatever. I think we’re starting to build a bond that will lead up to us enrolling in college.”

Colzie helped his Athens Academy squad to an 11-1 season, which ended in the state quarterfinals.

He was named Athlete of the Year for the state’s 8-A region.

“I would say I definitely showed off my versatility more this year than last year,” Colzie says. “I got to play both ways, so I definitely grew on the defensive side of the ball and that helped me become an overall better athlete. That, and of course my speed and size improved from last year, so it ultimately helped me perform better this year.”

With football over, Colzie is focused on his high school basketball season. He’ll get workouts in for football when he can, but basketball helps as well.

“It definitely keeps me in shape. It keeps me moving consistently and working out. It’s fun and it helps me with my athleticism, jumping around all of the time. It just helps overall.”
