Blake Fisher Had His Recruiting Hat On This Weekend

2021 offensive lineman Blake Fisher‍ committed to Notre Dame in June and has been a frequent visitor to South Bend ever since.

The 6-foot-7, 340-pounder made his way back to Notre Dame on Saturday and loved every second of it.

"It was a great experience," Fisher stated. "Every time I go back, it's awesome. I was able to get around the offensive line group again. I saw Coach (Brian) Kelly and Coach (Jeff) Quinn along with the whole offensive staff.

"It was good to be back home. I don't even know how many visits I've been on, but it's great to get back every time."

This trip was a little different than for a game as Fisher was able to tour different spots on campus and form relationships with the other visitors.

"We toured the basketball facility, went to meetings, watched practice, took pictures and then went over to the basketball stadium," said Fisher. "It was a laid back and chill day for the people who hadn't been there before.

"I really took the role of recruiting."

There isn't a debate on who leads the charge on the recruiting trail for the Irish as Fisher has developed relationships with his recruiting class, but also the classes ahead and behind of him.

It will come as no surprise that Fisher was fired up and ready to recruit when he arrived on Saturday.

"I think they loved it, honestly," Fisher said of the other recruits. "Deion (Colzie) and I were definitely recruiting some of those top guys in our class that were there. We talked about a lot of good things.

"Notre Dame fans should be excited for the near future."

One of the visitors Fisher worked on the hardest was 2021 four-star running back Donovan Edwards‍.

The Michigan native had seen Notre Dame before, but this time Fisher was able to share why he committed and get to know Edwards a little more.

"I told him to take his time and to make sure he picks the right school for him. I think Notre Dame is the best place for him," explained Fisher. "It's a biased opinion, but we talked about a lot today.

"He definitely enjoyed his visit and I think we're in a good spot with him right now."

As for the elephant in the room, Fisher didn't hear much the Notre Dame staff when it came to the topic of former offensive coordinator Chip Long.

"I didn't talk to one person today about Coach (Chip) Long leaving," said Fisher. "Coaches come and go. It's a business. You don't commit to the school for coaches. You go there for the university and what the university is about and what it can do for you.

"I didn't hear anything about Chip Long until the last five minutes when I was talking to some of the offensive line guys."

Notre Dame fans will be talking about the Long situation until the bowl game, but the team has moved on and Fisher saw that up close and personal today.

"They looked great at practice," Fisher said. "They went into practice with a great mindset and started fast. There was a lot of energy and you couldn't tell that ever happened.

"You just have to go to the school for what the school is and not the coaches."
