Notre Dame went to Tigard High School in Oregon a couple years ago to pluck Braden Lenzy.

The Irish are showing preliminary interest in another Tigard wide receiver, this time 2022 Keenan Speer-Johnson‍.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder from Portland has been in contact with the program via social media.

“They followed me and told me to go up there, so I’m just going to head up there this summer,” said Speer-Johnson, who will participate in the Irish’s Sunday Night Football camp on May 31st.

“When I go up there, I’m going to do the camp, unofficial visit and see what it’s like up there…I want to see the campus, the facilities, meet all of the coaches and just feel the atmosphere.”

As a sophomore, much of Speer-Johnson’s contact with college coaches is limited, but he has been in touch with Director of Football Recruiting Aaryn Kearney and has a positive overall impression of Notre Dame at this point.

“Notre Dame is a big school to me because of the history behind the school,” he said.

He’s heard from Lenzy about it as well.

“He says he likes it up there and I just really want to go up there and check it out,” Spear-Johnson said of the Irish speedster.

“He told me it’s an amazing place to be and it’s one of the best decisions he’s made to go there and that I should go there to check it out.”

Speer-Johnson is also looking forward to showing the Irish what he can do.

“I’m going to show them that I’m a lengthy, fast receiver who can go get the ball,” he said.

He has early offers from Nevada and Utah State.

“It feels great,” he said of the early offers. “I was humbled to get those offers. It’s just a big step in my journey.”

Speer-Johnson is also receiving interest from several Pac-12 schools, including Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State and USC.

“I want a school that fits me well academically and the coaches really want me to go there and not just sugarcoat it, just the real coaches who are going to treat me the hardest and push me mentally.”
