Top Local Hoops Target Blake Wesley Talks Notre Dame, Top 12

August 31, 2020

Ever since landing a commitment from JR Konieczny a little over a year ago, the Notre Dame men’s basketball program has had its sights set on pairing one 2021 Indiana swingman with another in-state 2021 star.

Blake Wesley‍ has been the focus of the Irish’s recruiting efforts and it’s no surprise they were included when he announced his top schools last week.

Notre Dame was featured along with Maryland, Kansas State, Xavier, Creighton, Texas, Grand Canyon, Louisville, Missouri, Indiana, Purdue and Ohio State.

“It’s going to help me a lot,” Wesley told Irish Sports Daily of cutting his list. “I’m just excited. Top 12, that’s nice.”

The South Bend native based his decision on which schools were the ones who wanted him most.

“They were showing the most interest, kept in contact the most,” he said.

As for Notre Dame, Wesley pointed to head coach Mike Brey and the location as major reasons why the Irish made the cut.

“Coach Brey, hometown,” he said. “I like it. I like the atmosphere.”

Next up for Wesley is likely a Top 5.

“I’ll probably trim it down again in a couple months,” he said.

The Riley High School standout doesn’t have an idea of when he’ll make a commitment yet.

“Not right now. I don’t know.”
