Lewis Carter‍ wasn’t able to make it to South Bend after Notre Dame invited him to its camp this summer because it was cancelled, but the 2023 Florida athlete was honored to be on the Irish’s radar at all.

“It felt good because I worked hard,” the 6-foot, 195-pounder says. “Basically, it feels like my hard work is getting noticed.”

The Tampa Catholic standout didn’t know a ton about Notre Dame beforehand, but did some research afterward.

“They were just telling me information about the school and how they run their program and how it’s a great school and all of the stuff like that,” he says.

Carter, who could play running back and linebacker, already has double-digits offers from schools like Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Arizona State and Central Florida among others.

“Before I got them, it was like, ‘It’d be great to get them,’” Carter says. “Now that I’ve got them, it’s like nothing when you know you worked for them.”

Carter is also receiving preliminary interest from several other schools, including Notre Dame, that haven’t offered yet.

“Some of them like how I run the ball, some of them like how explosive I am with the ball and some like how aggressive I am on the defensive side of the ball,” he says. “They also like how I play special teams. A lot of people think there’s something wrong with special teams, but that’s where it starts at.”

Carter, who says he doesn’t prefer offense or defense, hasn’t had the chance to take many visits yet.

“After all this stuff blows over, I feel like I’m going to visit most of them,” he says.

“I’m looking for a place that has my major and a team that’s put together, where there’s no individuals, they want to win together, they’re a family…where a lifetime bond can be created.”

Carter hopes to major in Engineering.
