The Skinny
Notre Dame got in early on Cheeks and the interest is mutual as the four-star prospect has been to campus multiple times already, including in December as the Irish hosted Syracuse. Clark Lea projected Cheeks at the rover position, but there’s a chance he moved inside similar to Drue Tranquill as he has the potential to put on quite a bit of size.

Marcus Freeman is now the defensive coordinator and the two have already built a relationship as Cheeks was recruited by Cincinnati, so that transition is favorable to Notre Dame. It’s hard to picture Notre Dame not being his top group, if not the leader, but Michigan, Ohio State, Texas and Wisconsin are also coming hard after the versatile linebacker.

Timetable
Similar to many 2022 prospects, Cheeks doesn’t have a set date for a commitment and is up in the air on when he wants his process to end. He’s been able to take independent visits, but prospects and their family can only get so much out of walking around campus alone. Mid-April is circled on every prospect's calendar as the dead period could end, but who knows at this point. Notre Dame is in a good spot and we expect him to continue to be a priority under Freeman.

ISD Expert Jamie Uyeyama
He had a shortened season due to injury as a sophomore, but he showed enough in four games to prove he is a big time prospect. He’s an explosive blitzer with good timing. Any time a linebacker can be described as a twitchy playmaker, that’s a great thing. He plays downhill.

A track athlete who runs hurdles and plays running back on offense, he makes splash plays against the run and in coverage at his future position in college. He has the tools to develop into an impact inside linebacker.
