Notre Dame Hoops Hoping For One More Shot

If Mike Brey and the leaders of the Notre Dame Men’s Basketball program are ready to move on, they’re certainly doing a great job pretending that’s not the case.

The urge to prove they can turn the program around and the belief that they have the pieces in place to do so next season come across as genuine.

And that goes beyond Brey’s statement last week to Seth Davis that there was “no way” he’d move on voluntarily.

There are plenty of valid criticisms that can be aimed at the program for the performance of the past few years, but the luck factor certainly hasn’t been in the Irish’s favor either.

“It has been a cavalcade of injuries” since Bonzie Colson went down with an ankle injury against Duke in the 2017 ACC Title Game, according to one source.

The Irish have often found themselves so limited by the number of able bodies that assistant coaches have had to be serious participants in practices.

Talk to the leaders within the program and it’s clear they’re relishing the opportunity to have a full roster of players pushing each other the way they did in 2015.

“I would give my right arm to have that this spring and summer,” says one source.

“Because if we have that, we will be back to where we want to be.”
