Notre Dame has landed one of the nation’s top defensive backs (regardless of ranking) in 2022 Naples (Fla.) star Devin Moore‍ three weeks after his official visit to South Bend.

The ISD four-star prospect was one of the more coveted prospects in the country and it’s a huge win for the Notre Dame defensive staff.

The Naples star is able to play cornerback and safety and that’s something defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman puts a great deal of value in.

"I think my strength right now is my playmaking ability, but also my length, speed and ability to cover,” said Moore.

Moore is also the ideal fit on and off the field, which made the decision a no-brainer.

“He is a very driven person when it comes to the classroom and he knows what he wants to do,” said Naples head coach Rick Martin. “He knows what he wants his profession to be and he wants to give back to his parents later on in life when he can. The academic part is really important to him.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder isn’t just impressive in the classroom and on the field, but Moore is a natural leader and that’s a trait valued by Notre Dame.

“It makes your team that much better,” explained Martin. “He allows me to kind of step away. I don't have to police things and I don't have to do much because with him in the locker room, I know he's handling everything. You should see him with our young DBs. It's incredible the amount of positive influence that he has on this group that we have.”

Moore’s older brother, Dante, also felt Notre Dame would be the perfect match.

“They've been pretty well-rounded as far as the football program goes,” Dante says of the Irish. “They've had a lot of success for a long time actually, but while we've been alive, the past decade or so, they've been in the top five consistently. He also has NFL aspirations. We both know that they produce some very good football players toward that league.

“But also, you'd be a fool to not acknowledge that their academic standing isn't above a lot of schools out there. Being able to get that degree, have that ridiculous amount of connections that I'm sure they provide and play for a winning football program. The balance is there for Notre Dame.”
