2023 Findlay (Ohio) defensive end (or offensive lineman if you’re not Michigan State or Notre Dame) Luke Montgomery‍ has released his top 12 after a wild month of traveling across the country to see Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The four-star prospect will now narrow his focus to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, South Carolina, Stanford and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder will have a decision to make before his commitment and that will be which position he’ll play at the next level. Defensive line is an option at Notre Dame and Michigan State, while every other program in his top projects him to play offensive line - a position he’ll take his first snaps at this fall.

"I've only played tight end, but I'm transitioning over to offensive line this year,” Montgomery told ISD in the spring. “When I was playing tight end, it was more of blocking plays, so it's alright with me. I really like blocking and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.”

Montgomery’s final trip was to Notre Dame over the weekend and he left knowing much more about the program, but also impressed with Marcus Freeman and Mike Elston’s plan for him on the defensive line.

“They have a spot they see me at that's more of a 3-tech and I can move out to a 5-tech on defense,” said Montgomery. “I'm really excited about that. I'll see how I do over the next year and see how that goes."

Overall, I like Notre Dame’s chances to make the final cut when that time comes, but the Irish will also likely be fighting Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
