Notre Dame signed 21 prospects in the Class of 2022 last week and Adon Shuler‍ was paying attention.

“I got to see the two Jersey kids sign last week, so that's a really good thing,” the 2023 New Jersey defensive back said, referring to 2022 quarterback Steve Angeli and 2022 defensive back Jayden Bellamy.

Now, Shuler and his class takes center stage.

The Irvington High School standout has been committed to the Irish since August and now he’s got his eye on bringing others along to join him.

“Of course,” Shuler told Irish Sports Daily. “We're really trying to get Peyton (Bowen) right now and Christian Gray, those two guys, we're trying to get them.”

Shuler is pleased with the turn of events which resulted in Marcus Freeman being promoted from Notre Dame defensive coordinator to head coach earlier this month.

“Everything played out good with Coach Freeman becoming the new head coach,” he said. “I'm really happy. My family's happy. I'm really excited.”

Shuler’s been in close communication with Freeman for several months and believes the coach will do big things for the Irish.

“The energy he brings is different,” Shuler said of Freeman. “You don't normally get a lot of kids to ride for a coach as much as everybody did for Coach Free, so that was really big.

“His energy is amazing. He's a people person. He's a family person, so that was really a big thing.”

Shuler visited Notre Dame for the Irish’s home finale against Georgia Tech last month and expects to return relatively soon.

“I'll definitely get back up there in the in the spring before my official. I'm definitely going to get there at least one or two more times.”
