2023 Notre Dame linebacker commit Drayk Bowen‍ wanted to commit early to be a presence on big recruiting weekends. The four-star prospect has done exactly that as Bowen has been a frequent visitor to Notre Dame this spring, including on Saturday for the Blue-Gold Game.

“It was pretty good,” Bowen told ISD. “I had a lot of fun hanging out with all the commits and recruits.”

Notre Dame hosted several top 2023 targets and Bowen made sure to convey his message to the uncommitted prospects in town.

“I told them this place is really special,” stated Bowen. “We have a family already and we want you to join it. Coach Freeman is going to do something special here and we all want you to be part of it.

“They all fit in really well with the commits.”

Saturday was also a chance to briefly see what defensive coordinator Al Golden’s scheme could be like and the results were impressive.

“I thought the defense played really well,” said Bowen. “They had a lot of interceptions and the game was dominated by the defense.”

Bowen and Golden talk weekly and the two have started to feel each other out. The Andrean (Ind.) star is more than comfortable with Golden and looks forward to arriving on campus next winter.

“We spoke for a little bit this weekend,” explained Bowen. “He seems a lot like Coach Freeman. He’s aggressive in his scheme, but he's more passive as a person. I like him because he seems like Coach Freeman but he just has a different style of coaching.”

The weekend also presented a chance for Bowen to see most of Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class, including Keon Keeley‍ and Peyton Bowen‍.

“It was fun,” said Bowen. Keon’s my dude. Peyton and I got to talk a lot. I think everything is all good. We talked about his recruitment and I think Notre Dame is in a good spot.”
