Beachem in Bounce Back Mode

Georgia Tech knocked off the Irish on a last second buzzer beater on Saturday afternoon, but the Irish aren’t sulking over it. Senior VJ Beachem admitted the loss was tough, but the team felt the game wasn’t all negative.

“We didn’t find ourselves offensively yesterday, but we held them to 62 points defensively,” Beachem said on Sunday afternoon. “They just made a great play at the end of the game. We fought hard to get back in the game and winning on the road is tough in this league.”

Notre Dame sits at 6-3 in ACC play and Beachem feels the vibe on the team is still a positive one despite back-to-back losses.

“We still have a lot of good energy,” Beachem said. “I think everyone is really not worried. I think people on the outside might be panicking, but everyone inside the locker room thinks we’re fine.

“Just knowing how together we are as a unit and the things we’ve been through in the past, we know we’re fine. Seeing what is going on the league, everyone is getting hit in the mouth and everyone is losing on the road or home. You don’t know what will happen on any given night.”

Notre Dame will be back on the floor on Monday night for a huge game against Duke. Beachem knows his team will need to have a good practice on Sunday to get in a flow for the Blue Devils.

“I think playing back in our home building, not against Virginia, is going to be good for us,” said Beachem. “Just being back at home and having a good day at practice today is important for us.

“We’re all excited about tomorrow and it’s a great chance for us to bounce back. This entire week is going to be great for us.”

It hasn’t been a secret the Irish have struggled on the boards as of late and Saturday was no different. Georgia Tech outrebounded Notre Dame 37-29 and the Irish will need a team effort on Monday night, as Duke will attack the glass hard.

“I think we just have to be more conscious as a team,” explained Beachem. “I think they got a couple long rebounds because everyone was trying to go to the glass. Even on those, they didn’t convert on those possessions. It’s got to be a team effort.”
There is a sense of a big-game atmosphere around the program already, but Beachem also knows it’s all business, as the Irish try to win the ACC.

“It’s huge for us as we can take care of business on our home court,” said Beachem. “The back end of the league play we have more home games than road game, so taking care of business at home is going to be big for us.”
