After having his flight to Notre Dame cancelled a couple weeks ago because of weather, Carter Nelson‍ made it to South Bend this weekend and the 2024 Nebraska tight end is glad he did.

“It was definitely a really fun, good experience,” Carter told ISD following the Irish’s 44-0 domination of Boston College. “I'm glad I got to meet the coaches in person and see the atmosphere.”

The Ainsworth High School star was especially grateful for the chance to spend time with Notre Dame tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

“We got to build our relationship a little bit more and I just hope to continue to build that,” Carter said.

“He just said he was happy we made the trip and he was going to repay the favor by coming out to visit us this December and that he was looking forward to building the relationship as well.”

The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder received a scholarship offer from Parker a couple weeks ago and is looking forward to seeing him again next month.

“He said he was going to get there right when the season was over with and he had a chance to,” Nelson said of Parker.

Nelson also offers from schools like Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas State, Penn State, Duke, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He liked what he saw from Notre Dame’s campus.

“It's a really unique campus,” he said. “I liked it a lot.”

He was also impressed with the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“It was good,” he said. “We were right next to the student section and the student section was pretty good. There's nothing to complain about there for sure, especially since it was a cold game and not very close, they were still there and supportive.”

Nelson kept a close eye on Michael Mayer and the Irish tight ends during the game.

“I like the way that they used their tight ends,” he said. “They got a couple good catches, good routes and then they also knew how to block down in the trenches, so that was really good to see.”

He doesn’t have anymore gameday visits set, but is happy he made it to South Bend.

“It was definitely worth it and I'm just looking forward to getting to know more about the school and what it has to offer.”
