Direct Snap: Nyles Goes Up and Alize Not Missing a Beat

We don't get a ton of access in the spring to practices and that's the way Notre Dame likes it. With a lot of new things being implemented, I don't think they are going to show too much over the next couple of months.

Mike and Matt did get to watch the first 30 minutes of practice today (find their reports here and here) and ISD also has some video available to check out from that too. In addition to that, Notre Dame just released some highlights from today on their Facebook page where we get to see a little bit more as well.

It's brief, but there were definitely some exciting things that appeared on it.

Those include:

- Alize Mack (formerly Jones) beating Donte Vaughn down the sideline and making a great adjustment on the catch. The balance after it is what is impressive. To turn his body and still be able to run after the catch is not something many do this easily.

It sure looks like he is ready to roll physically. His number is now 86.

- I mentioned yesterday when the weights were released that a trimmed down Nyles Morgan should benefit from being 238 as opposed to 245. It looks like we are already getting a glimpse of it on the first day where he flashes an insane vertical for a guy his size to almost pick off a pass over the middle.

The offense was fortunate that it ended up in the arms of Durham Smythe on this one. Nice concentration by him to pull that in.

- Did someone say RPO?

It's our first of look at what should be many run-pass option plays this year. Ian Book is tucking this one and keeping it looking to throw or run the football himself.

On a couple of other players it appeared like Brandon Wimbush was doing the same, but here we get to see the exchange (thanks Notre Dame camera man!).

Of course we'd love to see more, but this is what we've got for now. Based on this and the physical transformations we've seen from some of the photos, it's just nice to have Notre Dame football back.
