Petit-Frere A Special Talent

Berkeley Prep (Fla.) has turned out some pretty good talent, but head coach Dominick Ciao knows Nicholas Petit-Frere could end up being special. The 2018 offensive line is one of the most coveted prospects in the country as he is full package on and off the field.

“As a football player, he’s very high strung and his motor runs 100mph,” Ciao told Irish Sports Daily. “I believe he could play anywhere in the country. Off the field, he is as humble and as kind of a young man as I have ever coached.

“I believe he is going to be a 300-pound lineman. He’s a fierce and violent run blocker, but then he is agile and has tremendous feet as a pass blocker. He’s pretty special.”

Notre Dame, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and USC are just a few of the schools that have offered the 6-foot-5, 260-pounder but don’t think Petit-Frere is getting a big head.

“He’s being very humble through the process,” explained Ciao. “We make it a point that he understands he has wonderful offers, but the in the end, you hope you just find one that fits him. You hope he finds a school where he can get a great education and play college football.”

Academics are always mentioned as an important factor by recruits, but few end up making it a serious point in their recruitment. In the case of Petit-Frere, academics will play a big part in his process and it’s evident by his choice to attend Berkeley Prep.

“Our school is a tremendous academic school and that’s one of the reasons he is at our school,” Ciao stated. “His family believes education is important. Nick’s a great student and he works hard in the classroom.

“He has over a 3.5 GPA, so he’s pretty dedicated in the classroom.”

The four-star prospect will be in South Bend next weekend with his mother and it’s a trip the family has wanted to make.

“He wants to be able to see a couple schools,” said Ciao. “Notre Dame was high on his list of schools to visit. It’s a school he is interested in and he’s fortunate he can go for a visit to see it.

“He knows about the tradition and the tradition of Notre Dame, so he feels it’s a school he and his family need to see.”

As Petit-Frere’s senior season approaches, the Florida native is working harder than ever to reach the goals he has set for himself.

“He has to continue to get better every day and that’s his goal,” Ciao said. “There is a ton of things to work on. He is working on improving his hands and feet. He wants to get stronger too.

“He knows he has to work on all those things to play at the level he dreams of playing at and he knows it takes a complete package to get it done.”
