2019 St. Joseph (Mich.) cornerback Art Herndon III is no stranger to Notre Dame and will return to South Bend this weekend for another visit. The 6-foot, 160-pounder was in town when the Irish hosted Miami, but this visit, the rising sophomore wants to get a better feel for the finer details of the program.

“I want to get a better feel for Notre Dame and the atmosphere,” Herndon told Irish Sports Daily. “I want also to begin to get familiar with the staff and vice versa. I want to start and form a type of bond with the coaching staff.”

The Michigan native has visited Alabama, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin in recent weeks. Herndon has educated himself about the process after those visits and will apply that towards his recruitment.

“I learned everything takes time and patience,” stated Herndon. “When you compare other kids in my class, I have popped up on the scene later than most of them. I am just learning to be patient and take everything one step at a time.”

While he has visited elite programs, Herndon has also started to get an idea of what he is looking for in a program.

“Academics is always number one on my list,” Herndon explained. “I am also looking for a program that helps me on and off the football field, even after football. I want a program to have a family vibe too.”

After his visit to South Bend, Herndon will take a step back from the recruiting trail and focus on getting himself ready to earn his first offer.

“I don’t have a schedule after Notre Dame,” stated Herndon. “I’m probably going to prepare myself for the camp season and go from there.”
