Dominique Hampton made the trip out to South Bend this past weekend from Arizona to check out Notre Dame’s spring game.

“It went well,” the 2018 defensive back said. “We went on a campus tour and then we got to see the Blue-Gold Game.

“It’s a beautiful campus.”

The Peoria, Ariz., native was impressed with the contest.

“I liked the game, just watching two good teams go at it, well, two of the same teams,” he said.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder from Centennial High School got some face time with key members of the Notre Dame staff.

“I got to talk to the head coach and I got to talk to the defensive backs coach,” he said.

Hampton called his conversation with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly “interesting.”

“He was talking to me about the defense and what I could do to help the team,” said Hampton.

Meanwhile, Todd Lyght hit on many of the same notes he’s hit on with Hampton before.

“He was saying how I could fit the system and fit in the defensive backfield,” Hampton explained.

The Irish didn’t extend an offer to Hampton while he was in town, letting him know they still need to do some further evaluation.

“That’s fine, I’m not in a big rush,” said Hampton, who currently has offers from Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado.

It’s definitely an offer Hampton would look at seriously.

“It would mean a lot just because of the history and the tradition the school has,” he said.

Hampton doesn’t have any other visits planned at the moment, but does expect to see Lyght again soon.

“Coach Lyght said he’s going to come visit me in Arizona soon, but I don’t know the date yet.”
