After being in contact with Notre Dame Coordinator of Recruiting Aaryn Kearney for some time, Charles Robinson set up a time to get down to South Bend and the 2018 Illinois tight end was impressed with what he saw last month.

One reason the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder wanted to make sure he saw the school was his friend and 7-on-7 teammate, Micah Jones, the 2018 Irish wide receiver pledge.

“Micah talks about them all the time and I wanted to check them out myself,” Robinson said of Jones.

“He talks about how they are going to be good when the 2018 class gets in and he says it's a great football environment cause the people love their football.”

The Aurora native got a chance to see what Jones was talking about.

“The visit I had a great time it was a really good first impression,” Robinson said. “We saw how they are remodeling the stadium and we watched them scrimmage after that we are and tried on the jerseys.”

The coaching staff gave him an idea of what they like about him and what they’d like to see from him.

“They just told me I'm a very athletic tight end and could make some big plays for the team,” Robinson explained.

“They want me to come back for Irish invasion.”

Robinson hasn’t committed to making it back for Notre Dame’s summer showcase camp yet, saying he wants to see how his recruitment goes between now and then.

He already has offers from Mississippi State, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, New Mexico, Western Kentucky, Toledo and Wyoming.

Robinson has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college.

“I'm looking for a school with a great culture I want to be in a place I can really relate to and not have to change myself to fit in.”
