It’s plain to see college programs are putting an increased importance on securing long snappers these days with many schools reserving at least one scholarship for the position. And it’s become more important for schools to identify potential long snappers earlier in the recruiting process.

Notre Dame hosted a 2019 long snapper prospect for its spring game a couple weeks back in Ohio’s Jude Pedrozo.

“It was great,” Pedrozo said afterward. “It was amazing.

“The atmosphere within the stadium, there’s just so much tradition and history. I just learned a whole bunch of new facts about it. We visited the cathedral and some of the sights on campus. It’s just a beautiful campus. Just all around, it was amazing.”

The Westerville South High School standout got a chance to catch up with a buddy of his while in town.

“The game was really good,” he said. “There were a lot of talent players. I got to see one of my friends, the long snapper, John Shannon. He was snapping and he looked really good.

“I haven’t talked to him much about Notre Dame. He went to the same long-snapping instructor as me, Chris Rubio, when he was in high school. I got to talk to him then, but not much since he’s been in college. We saw him before the game and he said he was really liking the atmosphere there.”

Pedrozo, who has also received interest from Ohio State, Ohio and Eastern Michigan, didn’t get much of a chance to speak with the Irish staff while in town, but said Notre Dame certainly has his attention.

“100 percent, definitely,” he said. “That’s like top three schools right there, just the academics and on top of that the tradition and history. Just the football team and sports in general, they’d definitely be in the top three.”

He plans on returning to South Bend in coming months for the chance to grab their attention.

“I’m definitely going to try to keep in touch with them,” he said.

“I think I’m already scheduled to go back to their special teams camp this summer, show up there and give 100 percent, show them my skills and keep the recruiting process going.”
