2018 Ensworth (Tenn.) cornerback Jaylon King got his first look at Notre Dame over the weekend as the 6-foot, 170-pounder was in South Bend for camp.

“I really liked the campus,” King told Irish Sports Daily. “I thought it was bigger than I expected it would be. The way it was set up with the architecture of the buildings was nice.”

When it came to the camp, King had the attention of defensive coordinator Mike Elko and cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght.

“I think I did well,” stated King. “I did a couple of drills with Coach Elko and Coach Lyght to see how I move. They wanted to get a feel for me and what position I could play if they offered.

“They said they were going to watch the film they had recorded. They would keep in touch with me and give me feedback later.”

Working with Elko wasn’t something new to the three-star prospect, as the two had worked together at a Wake Forest camp.

“I got to work with Coach Elko a little bit last year when he was at Wake Forest,” explained King. “I like him, and he has some pretty good drills you can work on every day.

“When he started a new drill, Coach Elko explained it extremely well and made sure I understood the concepts. He made sure I knew everything before I actually did it.”

King provides some flexibility in the secondary as he plays cornerback and safety. He does feel more natural at cornerback, but that’s changing as he gets more experience at safety.

“My sophomore year, I was usually the boundary corner, and now this year, I will be playing safety,” King said. “I am open to either position, but I am more comfortable at corner because that’s where I started off at.

“I am becoming more comfortable at safety now that I have played it more too.”

When it comes to his recruitment, King has several Southern schools coming after him hard, and if Notre Dame offers, the Irish could make his decision a tough one.

“Georgia Tech, Louisville, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt are recruiting me the hardest right now,” said King. “I have visited all of those schools too. If Notre Dame offered, I would consider going there. I would probably need to take another trip to Notre Dame before making a decision.

“I am still figuring out what I want in a school.”
