Notre Dame Football Recruiting

Irish Have Eyes on 2019 GA WR Winston Wright Jr.

June 27, 2017

Notre Dame has seen success in the 2018 class, and it has allowed them to turn some attention to the 2019 class. Memorial Day School (Ga.) receiver Winston Wright Jr. caught the eye of the Irish staff, and his head coach spoke to the staff recently.

“My coach told me Notre Dame had called him,” Wright told Irish Sports Daily. “I am a 2019, so coaches can’t talk to me and they go through my coach. They liked my film, and they were looking to possibly pull the trigger soon on me.”

The 5-foot-9, 155-pound speedster has been interested in Notre Dame for quite some time but was caught off guard when he heard they inquired about him.

“I was shocked they called about me,” stated Wright. “I hadn’t heard much from Notre Dame yet. My recruitment just started to pick up, so it’s exciting to hear they were calling.”

The three-star prospect reports early offers from the likes of Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Mercer, Troy, UCF, and Western Kentucky, but has several schools keeping close tabs on him.

“Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Virginia are some of the schools that are close to offering,” explained Wright.

“It’s good to know I have the opportunity to play college football. Schools like Mercer and Coastal Carolina offered, but then schools like UCF, FAU, and Western Kentucky started to offer.”

Regarding visits, Wright is looking to get to a few of the bigger schools in hopes of adding a few more offers over the next few months.

“I am probably going to get up to Western Kentucky in the fall,” Wright said. ‘I am going to visit UCF in the next couple weeks. I will be at Clemson and South Carolina too.”

Wright isn’t in a hurry to make a decision, but if the right place and gut feeling arise, he won’t hesitate to commit.

“Right now, I just want to visit schools and get a feel for them,” said Wright. “If a place feels like home, then I might be down to commit now. I have to feel it for that to happen.”
