Notre Dame men’s basketball assistant coach Ryan Ayers paid a visit to Dominiq Penn a few weeks back and on Saturday, the 2020 Ohio point guard returned the favor, getting out to South Bend for the electric weekend with USC in town for a football game.

“I got to meet with the coaches, watch practice, toured around,” the 6-foot, 160-pound sophomore said.

“Then we went to the game.”

Penn, the son of former Ohio State and Boston College star guard Scoonie Penn, was impressed with the atmosphere on campus.

“I liked it a lot,” said Penn. “My sister and my mom were with me and we really liked the campus a lot.”

The Dublin-Coffman High School star also enjoyed the football game between the Irish and their West Coast rivals.

“It was fun,” he said. “There was a lot of energy. I enjoyed watching it.”

Penn, who has early offers from Duquesne, Kent State and Stony Brook, enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with Ayers and the rest of Mike Brey’s coaching staff.

“I talked to pretty much all of the coaches,” said Penn. “They asked me how life is and how my grades are and said they enjoy watching me play and that they would come and watch me soon.”

Penn said he “definitely will” stay in touch with the staff in South Bend moving forward.

He has a trip to Indiana on the mind, but hasn’t scheduled it just yet.

It’s still early, but the Irish certainly have his attention.

“I’m interested Notre Dame as a school.”
