It’s been over two months since Notre Dame landed a commitment but when you beat USC 49-14 – well things can change in a hurry. 2018 Penn (Ind.) defensive back Paul Moala has committed to the Irish after completing his weekend official visit by issuing a statement on Twitter:

“I just wanted to start off by thanking my family first and foremost for always supporting and believing in me, they truly were the rock of my decision. I’d like to thank the whole coaching staff and players at Penn High School for shaping my future self and always being there for me. I’d like to thank all the coaches and college who’ve recruited me and trusted that I’d make an impact for their team. I’m eternally grateful to God for blessing me with my talents that I can showcase in his name, All glory be to him. But I’d like to announce that I’ve committed to the University of Notre Dame. Sorry for the wait."

The four-star prospect held offers from Ball State, Hawaii, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder visited Notre Dame for Irish Invasion, Temple, Georgia and USC.

With Notre Dame 10 minutes from his home, Moala felt comfortable with the opportunities down the road, but also with the environment he is walking into.

“The atmosphere is great at Notre Dame,” said Moala. “The student section is crazy.”

Moala has also gotten comfortable with the members of the 2018 class and especially running back Markese Stepp, as the two have built a relationship over their childhood.

“I used to play rugby with Markese,” stated Moala. “I reconnected with him and he’s a cool kid. It’s been nice.”

Moala will join Derrik Allen has members in the 2018 Irish secondary class.
