2019 South Oak Cliff (Texas) defensive back Deondre Dansby‍ battled traffic and detours on his drive back from South Bend, but it was worth it, as 5-foot-11, 175-pounder got to experience Notre Dame in its entirety.

“It was pretty good,” Dansby told Irish Sports Daily. “I really enjoyed the trip.”

Dansby got in at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, but that didn’t stop him from starting his day early by getting to experience sights around Notre Dame’s campus.

“We started out looking at the locker room, and then we toured around everywhere,” explained Dansby. “We worked our way down to the field, and they were showing us the renovations to the stadium.

“I liked the facilities. Notre Dame has a beautiful campus. I liked everything a lot.”

The Dallas native got to spend time around Notre Dame’s recruiting staff before the game. The Irish will be keeping tabs on Dansby moving forward.

“I spoke to the Director of Player Personnel (Dave Peloquin) and defensive backs coach (Todd Lyght),” stated Dansby. “Coach Lyght said they were still in the evaluation process, but they liked the way I play. They like physical cornerbacks, and I am a physical corner.”

During the game, Dansby saw what everyone around the country saw on Saturday night. Dansby was paying close attention to the defensive backs and came away impressed with the coaching on the defensive side of the ball.

“The atmosphere was crazy,” Dansby said. “I didn’t expect them to dominate USC as they did.

“I was watching the defensive backs during the game. I liked the style of play and how they do things. You can tell they are coached really well.”

Arizona State, Houston, Jackson State, Navy and SMU have already offered Dansby, but several Power 5 programs are recruiting him already, including his dream school, Texas.

“Cal, Kansas State, Texas and UCLA are coming after me right now,” Danby stated. “Arizona State and Houston are the schools that have offered me that are recruiting me hard. Texas Tech will always be in my recruitment because my dad played there.”

Dansby is far from decision mode at this stage, but he is paying attention to where coaches feel he would fit into their defense.

“I am looking at the scheme pretty close,” said Dansby. “I know a lot of schools like my versatility to play nickel, safety or corner. I think it will come down to the coaching staff and how I feel around them.”
