Monday can be rough for some people, but Notre Dame didn’t give Monday a chance to be bad for 2019 San Ramon Valley (Calif.) linebacker Tristan Sinclair‍. The Irish offered the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder before he got to school.

“I had been talking with Coach (Brian) Polian and Coach (Clark) Lea since last Thursday,” Sinclair told Irish Sports Daily. “On Monday morning, they wanted to get on the phone with me. I called them before school, and that’s when I heard the news.”

It’s a new relationship but Sinclair has already set a visit to South Bend, and it will provide a chance for him to get to know the coaching staff.

“They seem like cool and knowledgeable guys,” said Sinclair. “They are people I want to get to know better. We haven’t talked for too long on the phone, but it will be great to get out there and get to know them better.”

The three-star prospect won’t be getting caught up in the glitz and glamour on his visits as he is focused on making sure he finds a school that he feels comfortable at.

“Every school is going to have a nice weight room, facilities and brand. I’m not really looking for that stuff,” explained Sinclair. “I’m looking for a feel. I feel like when the place is the right place, I'm going to know it. It will feel like the place I know I’ll want to be for the next four years and wear the jersey with pride. I think that is what it’s all about.

“Academics are one of the main things I’m looking for in a school. I want to continue my education and use football. Football can only take you so far, so I’m trying to get the best degree I can.”

Sinclair is listed as an athlete as he could end up at a few different positions on the defensive side of the ball.

“The position I play right now is a strong safety/outside linebacker hybrid,” stated Sinclair. “My size is good for that position.

“In the future, I think teams want me to bulk up and move to an inside linebacker position. Most of the schools I’ve been talking to want me as a hybrid, nickel linebacker or an inside backer.”

Notre Dame will have to battle schools Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Princeton, San Jose State and Wyoming for Sinclair’s commitment and the Golden Bears have done a great job to this point.

“The school recruiting me the hardest is Cal,” Sinclair stated. “They talk to me all the time. It’s been only positive, and they have been so kind to my family and me. I’ve enjoyed talking to their coaching staff.”

The California native will head to the East Coast in April to see a few programs, but this weekend he will head up the West Coast to see two programs.

“I will be visiting Notre Dame and Harvard,” explained Sinclair. “Other than that, I have a couple of visits with my 7-on-7 team. We have a tournament in Oregon this weekend, so we’re going to visit Oregon and Oregon State after the tournament for a visit.”

Sinclair’s visit to Notre Dame will be an unofficial visit as he hasn’t given too much thought about his official visits.

“At some point, I’ll probably go on a few official visits. I’m keeping my options open to all schools. I’ll figure it out later down the road.

“Right now, I don’t have any plans to commit anytime soon. If I do find the place where I feel at home and a place I want to be, I could commit. I just want to find the place I feel at home.”
