2019 Providence Day (N.C.) linebacker Ositadinma Ekwonu‍ has been to Notre Dame twice and the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder will return to South Bend this weekend for an official visit.

The four-star prospect hopes to experience what it’s like to be a student-athlete at Notre Dame.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all the facilities and the dorms,” Ekwonu told Irish Sports Daily. “That’s kind of the main part of the visit I’m looking forward to seeing.

“I want to experience what it’d be like to attend Notre Dame and see how the football facilities work as well.”

Notre Dame is battling several top programs, but Ekwonu has had a good relationship with defensive coordinator, Clark Lea, longer than most coaches recruiting him.

The two keep in contact on a regular basis, and the North Carolina native looks forward to spending time with Lea this weekend.

“I keep in contact with Coach Lea a lot,” stated Ekwonu. “I’m getting pretty familiar with him. We text at least once a week and usually on Sunday. We talk about going to church and stuff like that.”

Most programs see Ekwonu fitting into a Buck role, and he is interested to learn more about where Lea see’s him fitting in.

“I’m trying still put on some weight, so finding out what position they see me at and what my role would be in the defense,” Ekwonu said of when asked what he wants to learn from Lea.

This past weekend, Ekwonu was at Duke for a visit, and there were some similarities in the programs.

“It went really well,” Ekwonu said. “It was my dad’s first time there, so that was great. We got a tour of the facilities and talked academics.

“I haven’t seen Notre Dame practice yet, so I’m not sure about that aspect. The main similarity is they both have an aggressive style of defense. Duke practices with a lot of intensity.

Ekwonu will slow things down after his Notre Dame official visit, but he plans to get to a few more schools before he makes a decision.

“Notre Dame is my last planned visit,” said Ekwonu. “I’m still planning on some more visits up North and some in-state visits. I don’t have a set date for my commitment, but it’ll be before the start of my season.”
