2019 Good Counsel (Md.) athlete Cam Hart‍ always has had his eye on Notre Dame and the 6-foot-3, 181-pounder got to see the Irish program up close and personal over the weekend.

“Everything went well,” Hart told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a great visit. Everything I expected was there. There weren’t really any surprises.”

One of the highlights for the three-star prospect was reconnecting with a Good Counsel alum. Notre Dame center and captain Sam Mustipher was able to carve out time to meet with Hart on Friday.

“We know each other fairly well,” stated Hart. “We hung out on Friday and went out to lunch. He’s a good dude.”

Hart is currently listed as an athlete, and while some programs have made it clear they see him as a receiver or defensive back, Notre Dame was still in the air.

The fact Notre Dame hasn’t made a final call on a position didn’t stop Hart from enjoying his time with the coaching staff as he got to meet with multiple coaches on both sides of the ball.

“I got to meet with Coach (Del) Alexander, and we always catch up with each other, so it wasn’t anything new between him and I,” explained Hart. “I also got to meet with Coach (Clark) Lea.

“The new coaches I met that had an impact on me was Coach (Chip) Long and Coach (Terry) Joseph. They were all cool guys and really genuine.”

Joseph took time to really connect with Hart as they had a chance to break down some film during the visit.

“He was a cool guy,” Hart said. “He was straightforward. He told me what my strengths and weaknesses were, but then we watched some film of when he was at UNC.

“He has a couple of relatives in the NFL, so it shows his background.”

Hart also got to spend time with head coach Brian Kelly. It wasn’t the first time they had communicated, but Kelly’s message resonated with Hart.

“He was saying I was a good fit for Notre Dame and he was looking for guys that come to college for something more than just football,” said Hart. “All together it was a good conversation. He’s a good guy and very genuine.

“He showed me good hospitality, and I enjoyed it a lot.”

In terms of an offer, Hart declined to comment on if he received an offer on the visit, but Notre Dame has made a significant move and academics are at the forefront.

“It was definitely meaningful and a big part of the visit,” said Hart. “They have something great going on academically, and I liked every bit of it.”
