Sometimes a new system or a new coach can help a program go from bad to good or from good to great. Notre Dame fans had a chance to see that firsthand last season with new coordinators that were hugely responsible for the improvement on the field. Chip Long and Mike Elko were big reasons why the Irish went from a bad team to a good one.

In a lot of ways, though, coaches are only the catalyst for change. It’s the players who are the ones who make the biggest difference.
