Jake Rubley‍ and Notre Dame didn’t know much about each other coming into the week, but the 2021 Colorado quarterback and the Irish learned a lot about each other this weekend and it all seemed to be good with Rubley working out at Notre Dame’s Elite Skills Camp on Friday.

“It went great,” the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Rubley said.

In fact, the Highlands Ranch High School standout was asked to stay behind afterward for extra work with quarterbacks coach Tom Rees and the rest of the staff.

“It felt awesome,” Rubley said. “Knowing when all of the other players left, all of the coaches’ eyes were on me. It felt great. Being in that practice facility at Notre Dame, it was sweet.

“I talked to Coach Rees for about 10 minutes afterward. It was awesome. They were really happy. I threw the ball pretty well, which is always good.”

The feedback he got from the Irish staff was certainly positive.

“They said it was really impressive,” said Rubley. “I didn’t know any of those coaches going into it. They said they want me to come out and see a game this fall. They were pretty happy.”

The Littleton, Colo., native said he would “definitely” be back.

He was interested in the school coming in and is more so now.

“For starters, my dad grew up in Iowa, so Notre Dame was always a big school for the fans,” he explained. “And we’re Catholic, so we just wanted to come out, see what it’s like, see what the history is and be part of that. It was awesome.

“Seeing the Golden Dome was awesome. I’ve always heard about it, but never saw it before, so that was pretty cool. Just talking to coaches, seeing the practice facility and stadium, it was great.”

Rubley already has offers from Colorado and South Carolina.

“My first offer, the South Carolina offer, was crazy,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting it. It was just so humbling. It was just like a burden off my shoulders because I don’t really have to worry about it anymore and can just go play football.”

Several other schools, including Washington and Northwestern have expressed serious interest, but want to see more film as he progresses through high school.

Rubley said the coaches and the education will be the biggest factors in his ultimate decision.
