2020 Rockwall (Texas) receiver Jaxon Smith‍ might have been one of the most intriguing names at Notre Dame on Friday for the Elite Skills Camp.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder already holds offers from Arizona State, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Memphis, Minnesota, Nebraska, SMU and Vanderbilt after a tremendous sophomore season.

In 2017, Smith recorded 83 catches for 1,328 yards and nine touchdowns. He didn’t disappoint on Saturday and felt like he learned a lot from Notre Dame receivers coach Del Alexander.

“It was good,” Smith told Irish Sports Daily. “I had a great time. Receiving coaching from the staff was good.

“Coach Alexander is a great coach. He told me a couple of things I needed to work on, and I’m ready to get to work on them.”

Smith will work on Alexander’s points of emphasis as he prepares for the 2018 season.

“Catching the ball at the highest point, exploding out after I catch the ball and getting out of my breaks,” Smith said of what Alexander mentioned to work on. “I do a pretty good job getting out of my breaks, but of course I need to improve on things because I can always get better.”

The Texas native is no stranger to big camps, but Notre Dame’s stuck out to him.

“It was run very smooth,” stated Smith. “I liked it because it was good group of guys. There wasn’t a lot of kids there, so I got a lot of reps there.

“The competition was good. There were pretty good kids there, and I had fun competing. I had Collin Sullivan‍ there, so it was good to work with him and get a lot of stuff done.”

When it comes to Notre Dame, the trip to South Bend was one Smith wanted to make and plans to get back to see the campus and learn more about the school.

“It’s amazing,” Smith said. “I’m definitely coming back. I’ve always loved Notre Dame as a kid. It’s a dream school. It would be an honor to have an opportunity to play there because of the tradition and what they bring to the table.

“I was supposed to get a tour, but the plane scheduling wasn’t good. I’ll definitely come back up and get to see everything.”

Smith’s summer will now consist of preparing for his junior year as Notre Dame was likely the visit of the offseason for him.

“I might get to Baylor and Texas A&M,” said Smith. “That was my last scheduled visit. If anything else pops up, it pops up. I definitely ended on a good note.”
