The offers are starting to pile up for Sam Rengert‍, but there are still plenty of schools with interest in the 2020 Ohio offensive lineman that that haven’t offered just yet.

Notre Dame is one of those schools, which is why the Irish invited the 6-foot-7, 290-pounder to their game against Stanford this past Saturday.

“It was great,” he said. “I had an awesome day.”

The Fairbanks High School standout got a chance to see plenty while in South Bend.

“First, we went to the Gug. I got to see the weight room, where they watch film and have meetings,” he said. “I got to see where all of the offices were, the recovery area and all of that. After that, we went to the stadium. I got to go in the locker room, got down on the field, stayed down there until the game started and then watched the game.

He was blown away by everything during the Irish’s 38-17 victory over the Cardinals.

“The game was awesome,” he said. “That was crazy. I couldn’t compare it to the other ones.

“I think they played really well. I thought they did pretty good. They all looked very good.”

He was also impressed by the campus.

“We got there a little early and walked around a little bit,” he said. “I got to see the inside of the Golden Dome and some other stuff.”

Rengert did have the chance to speak with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

“He said he was going to try to keep in contact and watch my film,” the talented junior said. “He seems like a great coach.”

He already has offers from West Virginia, Purdue, Iowa State, Virginia, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Akron, Buffalo and Toledo.

“I don’t really know how to describe it,” he laughed of the early offers.

He thinks coaches like his combination of size and quickness.

He’s already been to games at Ohio State, Cincinnati and West Virginia, but isn’t sure where else he’ll head this fall.

He would like to get back to South Bend eventually.

Comfort will be a big factor in his ultimate decision.

“Just how I feel around the coaches, the stuff around the school and the kind of degree I want to get.”
