Blake Fisher‍ came into Saturday’s visit to Notre Dame feeling like it could be the kind of place he could call home and after taking it all in, he is even more confident of that.

And not only that, calling it home is a realistic option for the Avon, Ind., native after Brian Kelly extended him a scholarship on Saturday.

“I got to sit down with Coach Kelly and we talked about a lot of things,” the 6-foot-6, 287-pound sophomore said. “He definitely drilled down on academics and how important that is to Notre Dame. He said he was real excited about me coming, excited about everything I have to offer and he extended a scholarship to me.

“It was actually kind of shocking, I didn’t really see it coming. Just being so young, I thought they’d wait until next year after my junior season. But I think I’ve had a really good season playing varsity and being able to do the things I’m doing on the field against other guys who have D-I offers and have committed. I think that stands out because of how young I am and what I do against them.”

Fisher adds Notre Dame to a list that already included Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue, Indiana and Toledo.

The entire trip impressed Fisher.

“It was good, everything I expected,” he said. “I definitely want to go back soon. They definitely stood out. There were a lot of good things.”

Fisher said he’d probably come back in the spring, but left open the possibility of getting back sooner.

“I want to get on campus and meet some of the professors and some of the guys and just get around campus and see what it’s like,” he said.

In addition to Kelly, Fisher had the chance to speak with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

“He was definitely great,” Fisher said of Quinn. “He seems like a really good guy and I definitely could see myself working with him in the next couple of years after high school.

The entire trip was positive and Fisher is excited about getting back.

“Overall, they definitely did it good for me,” he said. “They definitely made sure I had all of my questions answered.

“I’ll definitely go back to be on campus and be around the guys next time around. This time was just to go down, meet everybody and start the process with Notre Dame. But after yesterday, I definitely think I could call this place home.”

He doesn’t have any other visits planned at this point and could be finished for the fall.

“I’m still waiting to see what I’m going to do. I might just be done. Notre Dame finished strong, so I don’t think I want to mess that up.”
