It’s still early for David Wohlabaugh‍, but the 2021 Ohio offensive lineman is getting an early start to his recruiting process by taking unofficial visits, including one to Notre Dame for its home finale against Florida State.

“I thought it was really good,” Wohlabaugh said of the trip. “I thought the environment there was really great.”

He was on campus for almost 10 hours during the day.

“It was a really long day, but it didn’t feel that long because of how much fun I had there,” he said.

“We got to experience The Walk before the game from the library with Touchdown Jesus and them walking into the stadium. We also got to go on the field before the game and we got to take pictures and stuff, that was pretty cool. Before we went out to see The Walk, we went to the rec center where we had a meal and were able to take pictures with the jersey and stuff. I thought that was pretty cool.”

After the game, the Walsh Jesuit High School standout had the chance to speak with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

“We were talking about the game and how the offensive line did,” Wohlabaugh explained. “I was telling him how impressed with them. I think they had like 300 rushing yards or something crazy like that.

“I liked him a lot. He seems like a very genuine guy. He seems like he’s very passionate about what he does.”

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound sophomore also spoke with Director of Recruiting Aaryn Kearney,

“I said, ‘Hey, nice to meet you,’” Wohlabaugh recalled. “He stopped me as I was walking out and he said, ‘Feel free to come back whenever you want,’ so that was cool.”

Wohlabaugh is still waiting on his first offer, but has received interest from schools like Cincinnati, Duke, Pitt, Syracuse and Vanderbilt.

He doesn’t have any other visits in mind at this point, but says he’s certainly going to be looking hard at Notre Dame.

“I definitely have it in mind as one of the places I’d consider,” he said. “They were talking about the graduation rate of all of the football players and it was like 98 percent. Education is important to me, so it’s really cool that 98 percent of the people who go there to play football graduate, so you’re like guaranteed. It’s not only that they have good education, but they help you because they want you to succeed.

“I’m definitely going to try to stay in touch with them, that’s one of the main things. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to go back, I’ll just play it by ear, but I’ll definitely want to go back.”
