In a sense, Tosh Baker‍ will be coming home this weekend.

The 2020 offensive lineman lived in Indiana until moving to Arizona when he was in sixth grade and will be back in The Hoosier State when he visits Notre Dame on Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound junior saw his recruitment kick into another gear this fall. It started with offers from UCLA and Arizona in October and continued with offers from Oklahoma and Utah last month. Already this month, Washington State, Nebraska, Duke, Northwestern, Arizona and Oklahoma State have offered.

Baker has long had an interest in Notre Dame and that interest was reciprocated recently, when Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn visited Pinnacle High School in Phoenix. Baker had a chance to speak with Quinn later and was informed of Notre Dame’s Junior Day this coming weekend.

“He was telling me I’d be able to go in meetings, get to talk to the strength and conditioning coach, watch a bowl practice and then get to talk and basically, get around campus and meet all of the coaches to build those relationships,” Baker explained.

That’s about all he needed to hear.

“Me and my family are flying over on Friday,” he said. “Notre Dame is a great academic school and it’s extremely competitive. Obviously, they’re #3 in the College Football Playoffs and they’re playing Clemson. That will be a great game. I’m from Indiana. I’m accustomed to the Midwest. I’ve been used to the snow. It’s a school I have high interest in.

“I’m super excited to meet all of the coaches in person. I’m also excited to see the campus and watch practice and see what a school like Notre Dame is all about.”

As he continues to pile up the offers, Baker acknowledges an offer from Notre Dame would be a big one.

“It’d mean a lot to me obviously,” he said. “They’re just a great school.

“They’re different than most other schools. They’re very sincere when they give out an offer. They really value you, so that would just mean a lot to me.”

Baker is also a standout basketball player who is in the midst of the hoops season. He doesn’t have any visits planned beyond Notre Dame, but expects to sit down and talk with his parents about future trips soon.
