Trainer | 2021 WR Deion Colzie's Upside "Tremendous"

March 3, 2019

Deion Colzie’s career and recruitments are just getting started, but Terrence Edwards is expecting big things from the 2021 Georgia wide receiver on both fronts.

“Deion is a long kid,” said Edwards, who runs TE WR Academy. “Deion is young and he’s a young 10th-grader. He’s 6-5, 185 pounds and he has not tapped into his potential yet. His best days are ahead of him because he’s so long. He has a large catch radius that a lot of kids don’t have and he’s so young.

“At 6-4, 6-5 at 14, 15 years old, his upside is tremendous.”

Colzie has an early offer from Tennessee and is receiving interest from several other schools, including Notre Dame. The Athens Academy standout visited South Bend for a game last fall and told ISD he was “sold” on Notre Dame afterward.

From Edwards’ standpoint, he’s grateful for the opportunity to mold the wide receivers of the future.

“It’s very exciting that I can get these kids at a young age,” he said. “I’m not getting these kids as high-schoolers who already have offers. I’m getting them young. Their parents are trusting me. I’ve had all three of them since middle school. To see these kids blossom and perform on Friday night is awesome.”

Edwards starred at Georgia during his collegiate days and had a tremendously successful CFL career after a year in the NFL.

“I can’t play anymore, I mean I could if I wanted to,” he laughed. “I’m just joking. Since I don’t play anymore, I kind of live through them. I watch a game, watch their film and it gives me something to work on with them. I evaluate their film every week. When we see things we need to work on, we work on them in our next training session.

“My days are over. I had my fun, I had my days. My career was great. Now, it’s all about helping these kids, giving back the knowledge that I’ve received. Once they get to college, they’ll be further ahead than anyone else.”
