Notre Dame Forward John Mooney Gets All-ACC Honors
The 2018-19 season hasn’t gone the way Notre Dame wanted it to go, but the bright spot of the year has been the play of junior John Mooney.
Mooney, a 6-foot-9 forward, was named third-team All-ACC on Monday afternoon for his efforts.
The Orlando native averaged 14.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
Mooney led the ACC in rebounding and double-doubles with 19. Mooney’s 12.6 rebounds in conference play also led all major conference players.
13 of Mooney’s 19 double-doubles came in ACC play, which puts him in elite company as only Tim Duncan (Wake Forest) had more in conference play (15).
As for where he stands in the Notre Dame record books, Mooney’s 348 rebounds this year is sixth on the single-season rebound list during the Mike Brey era. He sits just three rebounds behind Luke Harangody (351) and six behind Jack Cooley (354).
Notre Dame will open the ACC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PM ET against Georgia Tech.
