And now he waits.

On Tuesday, Caleb Offord‍ worked out in front of Notre Dame safeties coach Terry Joseph and Irish defensive coordinator Clark Lea at Southaven High School.

“We ran through some drills for them and everything,” the 2020 Mississippi defensive back said. “They got to evaluate me.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder had a chance to speak with the Irish coaches later.

“They said I did really good in the drills,” he said.

“I think I showed them that even though I’m tall as a corner, I can still move like I’m not. I can get in and out of my breaks and I have good hips.”

Now, he waits to hear back on their evaluation.

“They said when they offer, it’s going to be like a fullcourt press, so everybody is going to be on me to go there and they want to get me up to the school,” Offord said.

He already has offers from schools like Duke, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Purdue, Memphis and Dartmouth among others. He’d love to add the Irish to that list.

“That’d mean a lot because I know their academic background and I know they’re one of the top competitors in college football and they send plenty of guys to the NFL,” he said. “You’re really getting the best of both worlds, so that would mean a lot if they offer me.”

And if he is offered, it’s likely he’ll make a trip up to South Bend.

“I think I’d have to get up there without a doubt,” he said. “I really want to check out everything, check out the facilities of course and all of that. I want to build relationships with most of the coaches. I want to see how practice is run and everything. I’m going to be trying to look at all of that when I come there.”

He hasn’t taken any official visits yet and doesn’t have any planned at the moment.

“I haven’t decided yet, but I’m going to make that decision in a couple of weeks,” he said of where he’ll use his officials. “I’m going to try to take three this summer going into my senior year.”

He hopes to enroll at the school of his choice early, so there’s a chance he could be ready to commit to a school after those three officials.

Offord added that he thinks he’ll be able to cut his list of offers down soon.

“Unless some more offers pop up then I’ll reevaluate everything,” he said. “But in a couple of weeks, I’ll probably narrow it down to who I’m most interested in.”

Relationships will be key to who makes that cut and who he ultimately signs with.

“It’s going to come down to who treats me like family the most and who prepares you the best for the NFL really while still giving you that great education to prepare you for life after football. All of that comes to mind when I make my decision.”
