Bryan Sanborn‍ hoped to visit Notre Dame this summer and the Irish wanted to have him, but the 2021 Illinois linebacker’s schedule didn’t allow it.

“They were trying to get me up to camp, but I couldn’t because of my baseball schedule,” the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder from Lake Zurich High School said.

Instead, he’ll look at getting to South Bend this fall.

“They want me to come out for a game and all of that and of course, they’ll see how I do during my junior season,” said Sanborn. “From there, I don’t know if they’ll want me to come back to another camp or something or if they’re just going to offer me after they see how I do my junior year.”

Sanborn already has more than a dozen offers from schools like Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Duke, Virginia, and Iowa State among others.

“It’s just a blessing to be able to be in this position,” he said. “I grew up wanting to play at the next level. Just to know these schools are almost giving me my dream is a blessing.”

College coaches like what they’ve seen from Sanborn on the field.

“They love how I get to the ball; anywhere on the field, I’m always around the ball at all times and I’m a very aggressive player who can make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage instead of five yards down the field,” he explained.

Sanborn’s brother, Jack, plays linebacker for Wisconsin, but he said an offer from the Irish would certainly be an impactful one.

“Notre Dame is one of my dream schools almost,” he said. “Growing up, watching Notre Dame Football, you can’t get any better than that. How they play day in and day out is amazing. I’d love to be a part of that program.”

He’s looking forward to getting to Notre Dame this fall.

“Just touring the facilities and all of that and seeing the campus and academics,” he said of what he’ll be looking to see. “I want to see how they check off all of the boxes I have for colleges.”

Sanborn took a visit to Wisconsin last month and could try to squeeze a couple visits in when the dead period is temporarily lifted later this month.

“I’m still looking into trying to get up to Michigan because I know Michigan still wants me to get up there and see them sometime in July and maybe Iowa,” he said.

During the season, he’d like to return to Wisconsin, possibly Michigan and “of course, Notre Dame.”
