Elijah Teague would have liked some more personal contact, but the 2018 Illinois defensive tackle still enjoyed his first trip to South Bend for a Notre Dame home game.

“It was alright,” the junior said of his visit for the Irish’s home loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday.

“I didn’t really get to talk to any coaches or anything, but it was alright. I got to see the Gug and saw a little bit of the game. We left at halftime.”

Teague was surprised to learn the Hokies came out with the victory.

“I looked it up on Google and saw it was 34-31,” he said.

The Chicago native admitted the weather caused him to lose focus at time during the game.

“Honestly, I watched the game, but I was cold,” he laughed. “I was watching, but I wasn’t really in to it how I usually am watching the coaches and everything. But from what I saw, they were doing good. When I was there, they were winning, but I guess in the second half, they didn’t show up.”

Teague was in South Bend for Irish Invasion back in June and enjoyed the atmosphere for a game day.

“It was nice,” he said. “It was cool.”

He got a kick out of the energy inside the stadium during the game.

“The student section is always something different with each school and what they do,” he said. “When I went to Michigan State, I saw the student section and the things they do. I like how at Notre Dame their fans would do the push-ups and at halftime, they had the marshmallow fight.”

After a pair of visits, Teague has a decent impression of the program.

“Nice facility, from what I know about the coaches, they were cool at Invasion,” he said. “I kind of wish I would have spoken with them, especially since they invited to me the game. It would have been nice if I got to speak to them, but overall, I like the program.”

He says he’ll wait to hear from the Notre Dame staff to find out what the next step is for each of them.
