After extending an offer to Kechaun Bennett‍ last month, Mike Elston followed up with a stop at Suffield Academy this week to check on the 2021 Connecticut defensive end.

And the Notre Dame defensive line coach brought some company in the form of Irish defensive coordinator Clark Lea.

After dropping in on Bennett, the coaches spoke with him later.

“They were just talking about their Viper position and how I would mostly play that position as rush end and every once in a while, I’d drop back in coverage,” Bennett explained of the conversation.

“That’s a cool position. It’s basically like another linebacker. He’s just mostly rushing the quarterback.”

Bennett had met Elston before, but not Lea.

“They’re very laidback and calm, cool people,” he said. “They were just trying to get me to come up there and visit.”

Bennett said he will “definitely” make it to South Bend at some point.

“I think I’m going to visit after school though,” he said. “I’m trying to see the weight room, the locker room, the field, the kids, the environment there, how everything is, the atmosphere.”

Bennett, who also has offers from schools like Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, Nebraska, Purdue and Rutgers among others, expects to hit the road in the summer.

“Most of my visits are going to be after school.”
