Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly very briefly spoke following Wednesday's practice with a member of the Fighting Irish media team.

On the first day of practice:
"These guys have been waiting a long time to get out here. Pretty excited for the first day. Again, we've had first days. We had one day of spring practice and then we didn't have any other days. We'ree taking it one day at a time.

"First days, we can't read much into other than they're excited to be out here at practice."

On what stood out on the first day:
"I think there is some great continuity and a lot of veteran players. Anytime you return your starting quarterback, there is going to be continuity on offense. A lot of leadership on defense.

"I think the guys who have played a lot of football - that's pretty obvious on the first day."

On the team being accountable:
"You don't get to this point unless you're accountable. We're doing this in the midst of a pandemic. Our guys have done a great job when it comes to safety. We support them with testing and a great medical team - procedures and protocols.

"At the end of the day, our guys have to make great choices and decisions. To this point, they've done a great job."
