2023 AL RB Drew Pickett Impressed by Notre Dame & Lance Taylor

2023 Holtville (Ala.) running back Drew Pickett‍ has had a busy June and finished the month with two camps in the Midwest this week. 

"I've visited Arkansas, Ole Miss, Auburn and Clemson before Ohio State and Notre Dame," Pickett told ISD. "I think Notre Dame was my last visit this month. It's been a busy summer." 

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder camped at Notre Dame following a trip to Ohio State and Pickett was impressed with how he was treated in South Bend. 

"It went well," Pickett told ISD. "They showed me around and welcomed me with open arms. When it was time for camp, I went out and performed." 

Notre Dame running backs coach and fellow Alabama native Lance Taylor made a lasting impression on and off the field on Pickett. 

"Coach Taylor showed me the right way to do things and cleaning up some stuff," explained Pickett. "He gave me pointers and good advice. He showed me how they do things at practice and some of the drills they do.

"He made things very comfortable. He welcomed me in and treated me well. Things like that make a big difference." 

Pickett was also impressed with the people and environment around Notre Dame as he toured the campus and did a photoshoot.

"It's nice," stated Pickett. "It's a tight-knit community and feels like a family, which is something I really liked about Notre Dame." 

Pickett ran for 1,352 yards and 11 touchdowns last fall, but he hasn't gotten complacent despite hold three early SEC offers. 

"It gives me something to keep working towards," Pickett said. "It's an early headstart and I'm fortunate enough to start strong. I have to keep working to earn offers." 

As far as Notre Dame, Pickett knows he wants to return to see more of the program.

"I will definitely be back," said Pickett. "I really enjoyed my time up there. It was really nice and definitely, somewhere I'll come back to."
